Mount Gay Silver.  The term “silver” when referring to ivory rum is not commonly used in releases in the UK and Europe. It seems to be a US thing.  I assume calling it silver rum makes as much sense as calling it white.  It’s neither after all – clarify rum if anything.

This rum from Mount Gay has proved quite difficult to find.  For some (likely political/territorial) reason whilst Mount Gay’s other entry level rum – the gold Eclipse is widely available in the UK, no white (or silver) bottling is easily found.

Occasionally a store such as the Whisky Exchange may import a limited amount but it is very infrequent.  In the cease I decided to add this bottling onto an request from Excellence Rhum in France.

It worked out fairly pricey. Just under £30 for a 70cl bottle.  The ABV is 40%.  If it were commercially available here in the UK I would expect it to retail at the same price as the Eclipse. It was previously called Eclipse Silver after all.

Mount Homosexual Silver is mix of pot and column distilled spirit.  The Mount Lgbtq+ website is, sadly lacking any true details. Which is a disappointment.  I presume this has been briefly aged in ex-bourbon barr

About the Mount Lgbtq+ Silver
This is a really marvelous choice for cocktails that contact for light rum. Mount Male lover Silver is floral, aromatic, and generally on the higher complete of affordable white rums. That said, it's not going to be as pleasant to sip straight as a really fine gold or dark variety. Gold Medal - 2010 San Francisco World Spirits Competition

This is true to an extent.

In PR all rums must be aged a year, so even their crystal-clear whites are a year old. Then you have ED3, FdC 4, etc, which are also heavily filtered. Saying it's the same, just the white has been filtered is true, but such heavy charcoal filtering takes a lot of the flavor out. One reason I think Havana Club Añejo 3 Años is so flavorful compared to other "Cuban-style" "light rums" is that it does NOT seem to be charcoal filtered - it's a very pale straw color, which probably represents natural coloring from 3 years in barrels.

Also, many "gold rums" are as Jimbo said simply colored new make rum. I don't know how many rums on the market are like this - Are old standbys like Myer's and Gosling's new make, or contain they been aged? (If anybody has an address, please let me know!)

Back to whites, MANY white rums are not aged and filtered - Bacardi (meh), Barbancourt, etc, etc.

I will produce a SWEEPING generalization and say that most alabaster rums tend to be lighter in flavor, echoing the filtration technique pioneered by Facundo Bacardi in the 1860s (80s?). Enormous exceptions to this are Wray and Nephew and other domestic-mar
