Is pam grier gay

Last week I started my interview with film icon Pam Grier. We spoke about her second on “The L Word,” life in Hollywood and how her upbringing in Wyoming and Colorado inspired her care for and concern for the environment. Grier is in town March 1 as a special guest for the annual LGBT Flower Demonstrate party. Once called “the baddest one-chick

hit-squad that ever strike town,” Grier now spends time fielding offers and supporting the many causes she feels emotional about, including LGBT rights and Dining Out for Life.

A self-described melting pot, when we left off, Grier was talking about oppression in its many forms.

PG: I inhabit right behind the site of the Sand Creek massacre, where 500 Cheyenne women and babies were slaughtered by the cavalry for their land. We’ve all been living on land that was stolen from the Native Americans and we’ve forgotten, but I possess friends who still live with that pain. Just as I have Jewish friends who survive with the Holocaust and we own memorials and tributes to remember, but we must transport on. I just saw “Selma” and it reminded me of family on my father’s side from North Carolina who had to constantly deal with oppression — not being able to ride the bus o

Remember last week when I said I get to have some incredible experiences doing this column? Well, here’s one of them now. Pam Grier has been an icon for women and people of color for as long as I can remember.

Many of us know Grier from her groundbreaking title roles as Foxy Brown and Coffy. A new generation was introduced to her when Quentin Tarantino created the role of Jackie Brown as an homage to Grier’s title as cinema’s first female action star, and of course most of us in this community know her as Kit Porter from her six seasons on “The L Word.” In between those seminal roles, she has been on numerous shows, from “Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child” (she received an Emmy nomination for that work) to “Law and Order: SVU.”

With a career that spans four decades, Grier is best known for her kick-ass roles — but did you know in reality she’s a country girl who grew up in Colorado and Wyoming, fishing and farming? Gardening, food security and the environment are passions of hers, and among the reasons she’s the featured guest at this year’s LGBT party at the Philadelphia Flower Exhibit. Grier shared so much with me that, for the first time, I’ve decided to sp

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to a very special evening here at the Harvard Film Archive. My name is David Pendleton. I’m the programmer here, overseeing the widespread screenings. And I'm here to launch our very, very special guest, one of the most special guests we've ever had here. But first, I want to build a couple of announcements. As always, at the HFA we value an immersive environment. And we appreciate not having to deal with the distractions of glowing screens and noises from other electronic devices. So make sure, please, that all your devices are turned off. Quit them off for the duration of the event. Also, in honor of our guest, and your neighbors, we ask that you not photograph or record t

It’s the 50 Anniversary of the blaxploitation film Foxy Brown starring Pam Grier. The film is credited for revolutionizing the way women were portrayed in cinema. To celebrate this milestone, the legendary actress did a special interview for the Free Library and shared a list of some of her favorite books.

"It is up to us to seek data and enjoyment that will enhance our lives. I have done this my whole life at the library." - Pam Grier

Black Cake (2022) by Charmaine Wilkerson

In this moving debut novel, two estranged siblings must set aside their differences to deal with their mother's death and her hidden past — a journey of discovery that takes them from the Caribbean to London to California and ends with her famous black cake. In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett's death leaves behind a puzzling inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny: a traditional Caribbean black cake — made from a family recipe with a long history — and a voice recording. In her note, Eleanor shares a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspi
