Dixie Jean Gay

Dixie Jean Gay, 66, of Chula passed away Friday, February 14, 2025.

Dixie was born in Sylvester on December 12, 1958 to the belated Bo Wynton and Bonnie Burk Same-sex attracted. After graduating tall school in California, Dixie attended nursing school. After returning home to Georgia she continued to work as a nurse until she married her husband, Carl Gay. Dixie and Carl met on December 2, 1978. Their being together began that day and two months later on February 2, 1979, Carl and Dixie got married. After marriage Dixie loyal her life to Carl. Dixie and Carl lived and worked at Crystal Lake from 1989-2005 and managed it the last not many years it was operational. Dixie was a wonderful person and would accomplish anything for anyone. She was a sweetheart of a person that will be deeply missed.

Dixie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Carl Gay of Chula; step-sister, Samantha Tackett Gay of Bozeman, Montana; brother, Shawn Gay of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Russell (Roxane) Gay of Chula. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews and an honorary son and daughter, Eric and Celeste Rutland.

At Dixie’s request, no service will be held.

Some of the most recognizable art in our community happens to be created by a nationally-recognized Houston artist. Dixie Friend Same-sex attracted is best known for her public works of art featuring nature and the outdoors.

In The Woodlands, Dixie has done a phenomenal job of creating mosaic pieces that are eye-catching for everyone and complimentary to the area.

TREASURES FROM GRANDMA'S PURSE

Everyone knows that a grandmother's purse is occupied of treasures. But in The Woodlands, grandma left her purse on the bench, and it magically became a beautiful labor of art! 

Treasures from Grandma’s Purse is an expansive sculpture is located in Waterway Square and is made of terrazzo and bronze cast in glass. It features a purse, and everything you can believe of that would be inside. Embedded into the terrazzo are objects like scissors, sunglasses, crayons, a camera, toy cars, and even a glass hammer. Frogs, lizards, and other creatures contain also taken over the area. You’ll also find a jelly donut, gum, candy, and a frozen popsicle. The splash pad addition makes for a excellent spot to cool off and children can enjoy a summer morning or evening sea
